2013 Family Challenge 22 - Sewing

My paper is from Basic Grey Sweet Threads paper pack. The design was perfect to make a sewed quilted look. The stamp is digital. I coloured it in with Copics and used Diamond Stickles.  I punched the corners with a Martha Stewart butterfly corner punch. I added gems to the corners. The words were printed on my pc and sewn onto a backing and Stickled. The flowers are Petaloo and the butterfly is Prima.

2013 Family Challenge 21 - Key

I used a piece of shimmery gold cardstock and I punched the top with a Martha Stewart border punch. I sewed a row of black zig zag on the top and added some adhesive ribbon and gems. I recently found a piece of fabric while looking for a loose weave muslin which I cant find anywhere. I sewed that under my stamped images which I used black Stickles on the polka dots. I sewed the images onto a backing card and also added glittered black brads in the corners and a few random brads around the card, some of which you can't see because of the placement of the flowers. I love these new flowers I found by Petaloo.  I added a sticker lace bow and key and lock charms. The words are stickers with a key charm and a red heart brad.

2013 Family Challenge 20 - Night Life

I used the Cricut Classic Font cartridge to cut the silver circle and the words. I love this silver paper from the Twinkle Glints DCWV paper pack. The tree and owls are from the Paisley cartridge. I stuck some silver rope around the edge of the card and put a big brad in to cover the join. I stuck a Prima sticker on the brad. I used Stickles to draw some stars in the night sky.

2013 Family Challenge 19 - Bon Voyage

I attached a napkin which I found at the craft store to white cardstock using Serviette Podge. It leaves a rough linen type texture. I distressed the edges if the card and used Tea Dye ink. I added Say it with Crystals around the edge. Tilda is coloured with Copics and Stickles and some Glossy Accents on her shoes. Her suitcase with clothes falling out was coloured and stuck with puffy pads but I found a sticker of the suitcase with the map of Paris on and stuck it over the stamped suitcase. I used the Tea dye ink around Tilda to soften the stark white.
I added a safety pin to the top torn corner. The flowers were in my stash.

2013 Family Challenge 18 - Monochromatic

I used shades of green cardstock. I embossed the 4 quarters with 2 different Cuttlebug embossing folders and inked the edges with Colorbox. I cut out 2 Nestabilities and halved the smaller one behind the dark green. I cut out the butterfly on my Cricut with the Wall Décor cartridge. I tried embossing for the first time and it wasn't a great success. My heat gun was a yard sale item. I don't think it will work again after today but has motivated me to buy a decent one. I used black and green embossing powder and then added green stickles over the body to hide some of the black I cut the top right hand butterfly from the embossed paper and stickled it and the top left butterfly is a Martha Stewart punch. The "Thinking of You" words are from Enmarc. I stickled them.

2013 Family Challenge 17 - Light pink and black

I cut a rectangle out of the black/silver paper which is from the DCWV Twinkle Glints paper pack. I embossed a piece of white cardstock with the dots which I attached to the back of the black/silver paper. I coloured the girl on her bicycle with Copics and Stickles. She is a laser cut matt board by Celebr8 (celebr8.com). I attached her with double sided tape. The flower is made up of two flowers from Prima Essentials Raspberry and a rose which I stuck together and stickled. The words "Life is but a dream" is from a K&Co sticker pack and the ribbon is from Hobby Lobby (hobbylobby.com) which was the hugest craft stores I loved to shop in America.

2013 Family Challenge 16 - Bird or Birdcage

I used some new goodies I bought this week for my card. The paper is from the Riverbank Revels paper pack. I coloured my chipboard bird in to match the birds on the paper, there aren’t many birds showing but you can see one or two on the left. I stamped the birdcage with patches of a word/postage stamp in brown ink and stickled over the whole cage. The bottom of the birdcage is a Martha Stewart border punch. The branches are from a sticker pack in my stash which I pulled the pink paper flowers it had on and I attached the brown, beige and blue button flowers.  The nest is from a Recollections pack and the roses are Prima which I was very excited to find at my local craft store. In case you haven’t noticed, Prima has my favourite flower selection. I sewed some lace behind the patterned paper and added some gems for the birdcage to hang from the branch and in the corners. The word stamp is a Lili of the Valley.  The left corner circle is from my stash.

2013 Family Challenge 15 - Shabby Chic

I used paper from a K & Company Paper Doll paper pad. I punched the edges with a Martha Stewart punch. Lots of folds. I sewed the satin ribbon bow and crocheted circles  and a butterfly together and a butterfly. I inked the white side of the card with a lilac, pink and blue. I added some Say it with Crystals and Stickles. The Mother's Day stamp is a Lili of the Valley and I stuck some gems around it.

2013 Family Challenge 14 - Ladybird

I used black dotted swiss for the base of my card and a patterned circle which I cut the one edge off with a ladybird border on. I added a few stickles to that and a black pencil dotted line. The tear bear is hand made from mulberry paper and the outfit is made from cardstock and grosgrain polka dot ribbon, flowers on the shoes, brad for a button and polka dot ribbon. I used 3 Martha Stewart border punches: fence, flowers and grass. The ladybirds are buttons and I added some Say it with Crystals. I added a flower box made from mulberry paper. The words are a Lili of the Valley stamp.

2013 Family Challenge 13 - Clock

For my card I used a Pretty Little Stamps stamp and coloured her in with Copics and Stickles and some Liquid Pearls on her hot chocolate. I used paper from the DCWV Tattered Time paper pad and cut the clocks out from the one sheet. The first clock I used as a removable tag that I can write on the bag. It slips into a pocket. I used quite a lot of Say it with Crystals. I used a Fiskars border punch and a patterned scissors around the stamp. My new distressing gadget worked hard on this card on nearly every piece of paper. I've attached a few pictures from different angles.

My sister's birthday

For my sister's birthday this year, my mom and I each made her a trivet to use when serving her most delicious and spectacular meals. The colours make me think of her living room/dining room area and the ocean she looks out onto.

I made a card from each of us.

2013 Family Challenge 11 - Medical / Get well

I bought a new digital stamp from Digital Delights by Louby Lou. I coloured it in with Copics and added some Stickles. I used a new Nestabilities Labels 19 to cut out the stamped image. The papers were just loose sheets in my stash as well as the ribbon. The two flowers are Prima Roosevelt Collection Anna. The message is typed on my computer.

2013 Family Challenge 10 - Recycle

I used an old Christmas card and took the wreath off and added flowers and a ribbon to it.

I also used the snow from the bottom and the mail box on the door.

I cut out a house and added the mailbox to the door and the snow onto the roof. I added lots of pearls to the edge of the roof and the curtains, and added some flower pots with flowers in.

The New Home stamp is from Lili of the Valley.

This card will be for my sister when they move into their new townhouse.

The flower is from Prima and the butterfly pin is from Jillibean Soup. I used a Fiskars Treading Water border punch and added a butterfly gem.

2013 Family Challenge 8 - Graduation

This week's card was inspired by my nephew graduating in Hotel Management.

I went with a purple colour scheme which is my daughter's varsity colours. I sewed triangles of patterned paper to resemble an open envelope and added some tassled ribbon. I coloured in Graduation Tilda with Copics and cut the card and backing out with a Nestabilities.

The card doesn't open up but has an opening at the top where an envelope for cash slips in and I used a Congratulations sticker and added a black rose and a GRAD paperclip.

2013 Family Challenge 7 - Wedding

I made an easel card using Wee stamp. It's coloured with Copics, and has Stickles on the tie and veil and Glossy Accents on the flowers. I tore and distressed the edges and used foam tape to adhere it to a Nestablilities scalloped square.
My paper is from a Prima pack called Fairy Flora.
On the edges I added a string of ribbon and beads and used Prima Essentials Raspberry and French Can-Ection flowers and added brads and roses to the centres.
For the inside, I used crystals and more flowers, and a stamp by Inkandikado.

Mosaic box No. 2

This was quite a big project. I want to use this box for my hairdryer, straightener and brushes.  I used glass tiles for the centre of each side. Grout colour: Oatmeal.

A tip when grouting: Wipe excess grout off as soon as possible otherwise it can leave a film on the tiles which doesn't come off. After much scrubbing and googling, I found that wiping the tiles off with lemon juice cleaned them beautifully.

Another tip I saw on a show: When grouting (which is a toothpaste consistency, use your spatula to spread the grout and then scrape off excess grout. Sprinkle with some dry grout. This will absorb a lot of moisture. Leave on for 5 minutes then rub off and buff with crumpled up newspaper.

Mosaic Box

I did mosaic on the top of this box. The base of the box I painted purple, then added a mix of black paint and glaze, and then silver paint and glaze. I added some cardboard corner accents which I painted. I used black grout which gave a nice effect.

Baby cards

I've been to two baby showers in the last week. These are the cards I made.

2013 Family Challenge 6 - Bunting

I chose the theme for our challenge this week. I used dotted swiss paper for the card. The patterned paper and the hearts for the bunting are from the DCWV Grade School paper pack. For the bunting I punched out hearts and attached them to embroidery thread. I drew in the button holes and black thread to look as though the thread fed through each heart. I attached a metal heart to the one end and left it to dangle.
I sewed the two patterned papers and attached lace. I used a Martha Stewart heart border punch and added some ric rac and used a decorative scissors for the rounded edges of the paper.
I coloured my stamp in with Copics and punched out smaller hearts for the bunting she’s holding in her hands. I added some brads to the corners of the stamped image which was cut out and embossed with a Nestabilities, and a bit of Glossy Accents on the heart on her headband.
I printed the words tag on my computer.
I added some flowers, leaves and used Stickles all over.

2013 Family Challenge 5 - Black, white and grey

I cut out my card by folding it in half and using a Nestabilities on the Cuttlebug. I added some white sticky pearls around the edge. The hearts were cut with the Doodlecharms cartridge in 3 sizes and embossed. The flower is cut on 3 punches and embossed. I added some grey crystals to the hearts and the centre of the flower. I used some grey ink on the biggest heart to accent some of the embossing and distressed the edges with black ink. I used some grey and white ribbon for the bow and a metal 21 key charm. I added some Stickles to finish off the card.

2013 Family Challenge 4 - Frame

A big thank you to my sister this week for cutting out a frame for me on her Cricut and for the paper pack with bears. The frame was brown cardstock which I painted white, added some crackle paint and a top coat of grey paint. I used foam squares to make the layered bear and balloon. I attached some sparkly ribbon behind the frame and used a turquoise crochet circle under the Happy Birthday. For the balloon strings and ribbons on the pink gift and around the “Wishing you a special day”, I used Liquid Pearls.

2013 Family Challenge 3 - Lounge colour scheme / Appreciation

My colour scheme is blue, brown and beige and I did my card for Mom this week. My hubby was away in Cape Town at a mining show and I invited Mom to spend the week with me. I desperately needed help in organizing my house. We worked really hard, rearranging furniture, setting up my craft room in the dining room. We also made time to craft and did mosaic and played scrabble. A very enjoyable and successful week.
I used paper from my stash for this card and used a new stamp I bought a couple months ago. The flower ribbon is adhesive and made by Recollections. The flowers are Prima and I used 2 charms, a butterfly and a lock and key which says “Made with love”. I attached them to the stem of the rose. I coloured the stamp in with Copics and used Glossy Accents and Stickles on the flowers she’s holding. I glued some FlowerSoft Heather for her to stand in, and added some Crystals and a bow.

2013 Family Challenge 2 - Three Times a Lady

I used some dotted swiss paper for the base of my card and a sheet of patterned paper from the Prima Moulin Rouge pack which I cut out using a Nestabilities. I got to use some of my goodies I got on my holiday like the black lace trims and the black button covered in cream crochet.
The words are a quote by Marilyn Munroe which actually is “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world” but I changed it to “lady”. The 3 stickers are from a DCWV All Dressed Up sticker pack and some Stickles and Say it with Crystals finish it off.

2013 Family Challenge 1 - Love

This is so awesome being back to a normal schedule and starting our 2013 card challenges. My sister in law chose this week's challenge.

I used a brown and beige Bazzill cardstock for the base of my card. My patterned paper is from the Bo Bunny Gift of Love collection. The two Magnolia stamps are my favourites which I've been wanting to use for a long time and I coloured them with Copics and added a bit of Frosted Lace Stickles. The words are little wooden letters. I never had a Y in the bag so "you" had to become "u".
I used the Matha Stewart heart punch and stickled the red heart. My mom crocheted a little circle for me and I added some ribbon and bows. I added some beads to a pin in the top left corner. I decoupaged some of the patterned paper onto the back of a flat marble and put it in the centre of a flower. Say it with Crystals flourishes and some red ric rac and flowers finish it off.

Family Card Challenge 24 - Thank You

I had this frame and flowers in the plaid paper so I glued a heart doily at the back and added a Tilda looking out. I punched out a few flowers in the pink paper and added some gems and Stickles. I used a Thank You stamp which is stuck with thick double sided tape.

Family Card Challenge 23 - Bold and Bright

I used a Kenny K stamps on my card and coloured her in with Copics. My patterned paper is from Prima. The Happy Birthday stamp is from a few stamps my aunt gave me recently. I added some polka dot ribbon, a prima flower and some glittered sticky pearls.
