Mosaic box No. 2

This was quite a big project. I want to use this box for my hairdryer, straightener and brushes.  I used glass tiles for the centre of each side. Grout colour: Oatmeal.

A tip when grouting: Wipe excess grout off as soon as possible otherwise it can leave a film on the tiles which doesn't come off. After much scrubbing and googling, I found that wiping the tiles off with lemon juice cleaned them beautifully.

Another tip I saw on a show: When grouting (which is a toothpaste consistency, use your spatula to spread the grout and then scrape off excess grout. Sprinkle with some dry grout. This will absorb a lot of moisture. Leave on for 5 minutes then rub off and buff with crumpled up newspaper.

Mosaic Box

I did mosaic on the top of this box. The base of the box I painted purple, then added a mix of black paint and glaze, and then silver paint and glaze. I added some cardboard corner accents which I painted. I used black grout which gave a nice effect.

Baby cards

I've been to two baby showers in the last week. These are the cards I made.

2013 Family Challenge 6 - Bunting

I chose the theme for our challenge this week. I used dotted swiss paper for the card. The patterned paper and the hearts for the bunting are from the DCWV Grade School paper pack. For the bunting I punched out hearts and attached them to embroidery thread. I drew in the button holes and black thread to look as though the thread fed through each heart. I attached a metal heart to the one end and left it to dangle.
I sewed the two patterned papers and attached lace. I used a Martha Stewart heart border punch and added some ric rac and used a decorative scissors for the rounded edges of the paper.
I coloured my stamp in with Copics and punched out smaller hearts for the bunting she’s holding in her hands. I added some brads to the corners of the stamped image which was cut out and embossed with a Nestabilities, and a bit of Glossy Accents on the heart on her headband.
I printed the words tag on my computer.
I added some flowers, leaves and used Stickles all over.

2013 Family Challenge 5 - Black, white and grey

I cut out my card by folding it in half and using a Nestabilities on the Cuttlebug. I added some white sticky pearls around the edge. The hearts were cut with the Doodlecharms cartridge in 3 sizes and embossed. The flower is cut on 3 punches and embossed. I added some grey crystals to the hearts and the centre of the flower. I used some grey ink on the biggest heart to accent some of the embossing and distressed the edges with black ink. I used some grey and white ribbon for the bow and a metal 21 key charm. I added some Stickles to finish off the card.

2013 Family Challenge 4 - Frame

A big thank you to my sister this week for cutting out a frame for me on her Cricut and for the paper pack with bears. The frame was brown cardstock which I painted white, added some crackle paint and a top coat of grey paint. I used foam squares to make the layered bear and balloon. I attached some sparkly ribbon behind the frame and used a turquoise crochet circle under the Happy Birthday. For the balloon strings and ribbons on the pink gift and around the “Wishing you a special day”, I used Liquid Pearls.

2013 Family Challenge 3 - Lounge colour scheme / Appreciation

My colour scheme is blue, brown and beige and I did my card for Mom this week. My hubby was away in Cape Town at a mining show and I invited Mom to spend the week with me. I desperately needed help in organizing my house. We worked really hard, rearranging furniture, setting up my craft room in the dining room. We also made time to craft and did mosaic and played scrabble. A very enjoyable and successful week.
I used paper from my stash for this card and used a new stamp I bought a couple months ago. The flower ribbon is adhesive and made by Recollections. The flowers are Prima and I used 2 charms, a butterfly and a lock and key which says “Made with love”. I attached them to the stem of the rose. I coloured the stamp in with Copics and used Glossy Accents and Stickles on the flowers she’s holding. I glued some FlowerSoft Heather for her to stand in, and added some Crystals and a bow.
